Olympic 2020: France beat South Africa by 4:3, Andre-Pierre Gignac scores hat trick
France defeat South Africa 4:3 in an Olympic thriller this Sunday morning, with Andre-Pierre Gignac becoming the only player in the match to score hat trick.
France bounced back from 4:1 loss against Mexico and South Africa coming from 1:0 loss against Japan in their olympic opener on thursday.
Both France and South Africa came to an encounter with no points after their losses, while Mexico and Japan are both on three ponts as they will meet later today.
French are fortunate to be alive in the competition as captain Andre-Pierre Gignac and his teammates put the team's hopes and dreams of the 2020 Olympics high.
South Africans, who had themselves beaten 1:0 by Japan in their opener, started strongly in their match against France as they were fighting to get three points in that game.
South Africa got a free kick outside the France' box in the last minutes before half time, but the the kick taken by Luther Singh was saved by the French goalkeeper.
In the 41st minutes, south africa was fortunate to get a penalty, however the kick was missed by Singh.
In the second half of the game, South Africa took the lead through the irrepressible Kobamelo Kolisang in the 53rd minutes after French defence failed to clear off the box in their box.
Gignac equalised for the French side in the 57th minute as he met the ball that was crossed to head home with a fine effort and style, it was 1:1.
In the 72nd minute, Evidence Makgopa responded to restore the South African's lead, capitalising on a good cross from Kabamelo Kolisang.
In the 6th minutes later, France launched their second comeback of the day, with yet again, Gignac scoring an equaliser.
After an equaliser, South Africa was again in a sensational form when Teboho Mokoena pushed forward and scored the brace from out side the box.
Teboho Mokeona, Reeve Frosler and Ngcobo were substituted later in the game, however the performance of the team looked to be more questionable as there was more pressure coming to the South African defence until goal keeper Ronwen Williams committed a foul in the box and Gignac wrapped up his hat trick and converted the penalty to a goal.
France came back, in the 92nd minutes when Teji Savannier scored a winning goal for France and it was 4:3 win against South Africa.
